How long have you been in business?

OCS Solutions has been in business since 1997.

Where are you located?

We are located in the beautiful renaissance city of Florence, Alabama, in the northwestern part of Alabama. Our servers are co-located in several datacenters, geographically dispersed for redundancy, uptime, and distance to network backbones.

What is your business status?

OCS Solutions, Inc. is an incorporation in the State of Alabama in the United States. We are licensed by the state of Alabama and the city of Florence.

How do I call OCS?

Account Management

I need my login information. Can you help?

Absolutely. If you don’t know your customer number or username, please contact us. If you know your customer number or username and need to reset your password, please use our password reset page.

Domain Registration

How do I register a domain name?

The process is easy and instant! Simply go to OCS Domains to register your domain. If you are a school, government organization, or company that wishes to pay with a check or purchase order, please contact us before your purchase and we’ll prepare an estimate for your accounting team.

How do I transfer my domain name to OCS?

Simply visit our domain transfer page to get started. Before you transfer, you’ll want to make sure that your domain is not locked at the previous registrar and that you have at least 7 days before the domain expires.

If your domain expires in less than 7 days with the old registrar, a transfer may still be possible, but in this situation we recommend renewing with your old registrar and waiting 60 days (required by ICANN) to begin the transfer to us.

How do I renew my domain?

You’ll receive a notice at least 30 days out advising you to renew your domain. Payment instructions are provided in the email. If you need help logging into your account or renewing the domain, please contact us and we’ll be glad to help.

It is important not to let your domain lapse. If it does, your domain may be suspended. After a grace period, your domain name will enter a status called redemption. In this phase, only you can renew it, but a redemption fee of at least $80 (depends on domain extension) may be charged. OCS has no control over this additional fee for late renewals, so we urge you to renew your domain name before expiration.

Can by domain name be set to automatically renew?

Yes. During checkout you’ll have this option, or you can request this at any time by contacting us.

Can I add private registration to my domain?

Yes. For a small fee, you can add this option during checkout, or you can request this at any time by contacting us.

Do I have to transfer or register my domain with OCS to host it?

No, you may register your domain anywhere and host it with us. We do think you will like our low domain registration prices, however, so we encourage you to check them out first before buying.

Web Hosting

What kind of hosting do I need?

The answer to this question largely depends on your needs and budget. Our cPanel web hosting is best for small to medium-sized websites with no specific needs. If you have a larger site, our Fully Managed Hosting system may be ideal. We also have a selection of virtual and dedicated servers.

Do you allow SSH access?

Yes, we offer SSH on all of our Linux-based servers. Our fully managed hosting system does not offer SSH at this time, but we are looking to add this in the near future.

Can I get a dedicated IP address?

Yes, we offer dedicated IP addresses. Please keep in mind that IPv4 addresses are limited and that justification may be required for additional addresses.  You no longer need a dedicated IP address for SSL as our servers support SNI.

Do you support Java?

We do support Java on our virtual dedicated and dedicated servers, but it is currently unsupported on our shared hosting systems.

Are there any limits to the number of simultaneous connections?

For our cPanel shared web hosting service, we do impose some limits. Please see the resources section of our terms of service for details.

Web Design and Development

Q: What development systems and technologies do you use or work with?

One of our strongest assets is our depth of experience in multiple development methodologies.  We have extensive experience with PHP, C#/.NET, C/C++, Python, Ruby, and Assembly Language.  We develop most websites in PHP or C# and write most desktop software in C# (for Windows), C/C++ or Python (for Linux).  For low-level development (embedded, device drivers, etc.) we use C or Assembly.

The language we choose depends upon the features you need in your project, the type of environment it will be running in, and your long-term support needs.

Q: What kinds of websites can you build?

Any site you can imagine!  We have done simple one-page websites, complicated e-commerce stores, online magazines, portfolio displays, software-as-a-service websites, and countless other varieties.  There are no limits.

Q: Can you describe the overall process including payment details?

We have two ways of working on your website or custom software project.

Before we begin on your project we write up a detailed list of features that will be included in the finished product. We then create an estimate and then incorporate that into an agreement. During development if the cost will exceed the estimate (with 20 years of experience this is rare but it does happen from time to time) will let you know as far in advance as possible. Any work over the amount is billable at our standard rate. This method is best for clients who have a good idea of the finished product and have already drawn up specifications.

Alternatively we can work on a strictly hourly basis. This is best for clients who want us to do experimental or research-type work or who do not have a firm set of specifications in advance. This is also a good fit for rush projects as it eliminates the time involved in creating a detailed specification or estimate.

In either scenario we work closely with you during the development process and setup a “staging” area so that you can view progress on your project.

Q: What is your hourly rate?

We charge $89 an hour.  This is billed in quarter hour increments with a minimum of one hour.

Q: How are bug fixes handled?

Bugs are not mistakes – they are a natural artifact of software development.  We take great care and use the best practices available to ensure that your website or software project is as bug-free as possible, but it is impossible to deliver software that is 100% free of bugs.  Because of this we must charge for development while fixing bugs.

Q: Who owns the finish product?

With the exception of financed projects, we develop under a work-for-hire agreement.  As such, you own full rights to the software or website we make for you.  If the project is financed, you do not acquire full rights or ownership until after the agreement is paid.  If your account becomes past-due or falls into default we reserve the right to withhold access to the website or software until all invoices are paid.

Billing

What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently accept the following methods of payment:

  • All major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover)
  • PayPal
  • Personal and Business Checks
  • Purchase Orders
  • Wire Transfers
  • Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Etherium, Litecoin, etc.)

Our online ordering systems only handle major credit cards and PayPal. If you wish to pay with checks, purchase orders, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency, please contact us before ordering to make arrangements.

What are your payment terms?

Payment is due in advance of services rendered unless prior arrangements are made. We issue invoices 10 days ahead of renewal, and payment becomes past due after that. When a service has a past due amount we may suspend the service until payment is made.

If you pay via purchase orders, checks, or wire transfers, we can offer NET-30 and NET-60 payment terms upon approval.

I may be late with my payment. How do I make payment arrangements?

If you feel you are going to be late with a payment, please contact us as soon as possible. Depending on the type of service, we can usually make payment arrangements. We are flexible but need to know in advance to prevent automatic suspension and to work out the best possible solution with you.

Do you charge a late or reconnection fee?

We reserve the right to charge a late or reconnection fee, depending on the type of service, payment history, and past due amount.

How do I cancel my account?

Log in to your account and look for the cancel services link. It varies based on the type of account you have, but in general it is found on the left hand side or on the options button of the service in question.  If you don’t see it, please contact us and we’ll be glad to help.
